About Prestwick Aviation Tours

Antonov AN225 - The largest aircraft to land at Prestwick

Join Us to Explore the Amazing History of Prestwick Airport

  • Prestwick Aviation Tours has been set up by enthusiast, Allan Mackintosh, in order to tell the amazing story of the airfield at Prestwick.  Allan's background is in sales management and team development although he has had a lifelong fascination for aviation and a passion for Prestwick in particular.  Having finished full time employment in the pharmaceutical industry he is now running a part time Team Development Consultancy although he is putting time aside in order that he can share his passion and knowledge with those keen to explore the wonderful history of aviation at Prestwick.

  • Allan will take you on a journey through time, from the humble beginnings in 1913, the 'pleasure' flights and early passenger and mail flights of the 20s and 30s,  the crucial role of the airfield in World War 2,  the dawning of transatlantic travel in the 50s, the exciting jet age of the 60s and 70s, through to the modern day era of large military transports, scheduled cargo, maintenance and passenger operations, together with a glimpse into the future of space operations.  It's a story of innovation, risk, creativity, flexibility, and success but not sadly without its share of tragedy.  It's also a fascinating tale of political 'posturing' , entrepreneurial flair, challenge, resilience, and a 'never say die' attitude.  The story of Prestwick has a little bit of everything!

Douglas DC6s were commonplace at Prestwick during the 40s, 50s and 60s
